Top 10 Questions to Ask when Choosing a Wedding Venue

When deciding on a venue for your wedding ceremony and reception, several questions will arise. Having a list handy when you do a site visit will make shopping for your venue stressfree!

Most brides and grooms look at the aesthetics of a venue right off the bat, but this should only be one criteria when making your final decision. First, make a list of priorities and rank them. What is important to you? Indoor or outdoor? Convenient location? Lighting? Pleasant staff? Do they offer packages?

After making this list, research local venues that fit the bill and schedule appointments to see them in person. You will find out all the rest of the details from the site representative. Arm yourself with these 10 questions:

1. Availability - do they have your selected date(s) available?

2. Capacity - you’ll need to have a rough estimate of your guest count to discover whether or not the venue can accommodate you.

3. Does the venue have the ability to do both a ceremony and reception (if you are interested in both at one site) and would a room switch be involved?

4. Do they offer packages? Some venues offer packages with the room rental, catering, linens, centerpieces, etc.

5. What are the rental fees and how much would the deposit be to retain the date?

6. What are their rules regarding alcohol?

7. What amenities does the venue offer (i.e. adjustable lighting, A/V equipment, sound system, microphones, etc.)?

8. Do they have vendor restrictions (i.e. you can only use a certain caterer, dj, florist, etc.)?

9. Are candles or open flames allowed?

10. Are the facilities adequate for your guests (i.e. enough parking, ADA compliant, large enough restrooms)?

Answers to these few questions will get you on the right path to finding your perfect wedding venue!
